Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between coaching & counselling?Counsellors help people explore and understand their subconscious and unconscious mind in order to obtain a deeper understanding of behaviours and patterns. They analyse the past as a tool for helping to understand present behaviours. Coaches simply identify and describe current problematic behaviours so you can work to modify them. They focus on an individual’s actions and results. A coach works with you in order to clarify goals and identify obstacles and problematic behaviours in order to create action plans to achieve desired results. A coach is not a healthcare professional and coaches do not diagnose the people they work with. However, as Tony Robbins puts it, "coaching isn’t simply a watered down version of therapy. It is a dynamic discipline designed to help motivate and inspire people to achieve more than they believe is possible. "

How do I know if this kind of coaching is right for me?I understand that coaching is a huge investment in yourself. That is why I offer a complimentary discovery session. The aims of the discovery session are to explain a bit about coaching and the way a programme is structured; to offer you a direct taste of coaching as well as my coaching style; and to see whether we are a good fit for each other (Would you enjoy working with me? Do you feel comfortable talking to me? Etc.). To book a complimentary discovery session, click here.

Does health coaching promote a specific diet? No. Coaching is tailored to an individual’s unique goals and needs. There is no « one size fits all » because each person is uniquely different. You will not be asked to follow a specific dietary plan and no foods will be ‘banished’. We can work together to discover and explore what works best for you should this be part of your goals.
-
How do the coaching sessions take place?Coaching online uses an internet ‘phone connection known as VOIP (voice over internet protocol). I use Zoom for these sessions as it is encrypted with good quality voice reception and it is free between users anywhere in the world. I use the video option. You will need either a computer with a microphone or a mobile phone, and a high speed internet connection. If you don’t already have a Zoom account, to open one is free and very easy. Please ensure you are in a private and comfortable place to call from where you can express yourself freely and won’t be interrupted. I also provide WhatsApp and/or email support in between sessions.

What happens during the coaching sessions? In our very first session, we will work together to define specific objectives and outcomes for our time together during the programme. I will tailor the programme to include information and experiential exercises that I believe are relevant to these outcomes. Following on from that, each session will follow a set structure, so you will know what to expect, but part of the content will very much depend on what you bring to the table that particular day. Sometimes I will email you handouts ahead of our session, to be used together during the session. You will need to have access to these, and something to write with, during our time together. Sessions usually last 60 minutes.

What happens between the coaching sessions? After each session, you will receive via email a recap of the session and any appropriate resources and handouts to continue your exploration and learning. You will also receive an action plan for the week to come, for you to fill out according to what was discussed during our session. You will have 2-3 agreed upon actions to work towards implementing during the following week before the next session. You will have access to me via email at any point outside of our sessions if you need to clarify something, need further resources, have forgotten anything, or need some encouragement and support. I aim to respond within 24 hours during the working week (I don’t work at the weekend).
-
What happens if I can’t make a session? No problem, you can reschedule online or via email. I ask that you give me a minimum of 24 hours notice. You receive 1 « emergency reschedule » in your programme, which means that you can cancel a session within 24 hours and still reschedule the session. Any other cancelled sessions with less than 24 hours’ notice will be forfeited.
-
If I am being coached through an employer scheme, will the sessions remain confidential?Anything discussed in our sessions, whether you come to me through a business or as an individual, remains completely confidential.

What can I expect to achieve with health coaching?Health coaching helps you to create a foundational structure for optimal health but it only works if you do; you get out of it what you put in. Most of the changes happen outside of the coaching sessions and I cannot guarantee that you will take action towards achieving your desired outcome. What I can guarantee, however, is that during our time together you will have everything you need, in the form of resources, support and accountability, to make change happen. As a general outcome, you can expect to: Deepen your understanding of your body’s nutritional needs and how food affects you; Discover lifestyle habits that work for you and those that are not so helpful; Uncover what stress means for you and how to deal with it; Discover optimal sleep habits; Become aware of areas in your life in which you need more balance; Start to create the way of living that suits your unique body and needs.

Why don’t you have pricing on the website?I offer a couple of different lengths of programmes and programmes are tailored. Therefore, it is only after having spoken to you and understood your goals that I will be able to assess which type of programme will be best suited to you. At the end of the complimentary discovery session, and if you feel like you would like to work with me, I will give you all the details. To book a free complimentary session click here.
